PP025 Scheduling for 80%
Have you ever reached the end of your week and realized you aren’t anywhere close to being done? Many times when we struggle to understand how much time it actually takes to do things, we end up filling our life up to 120%. So let’s talk about why scheduling 80% full can be a good idea.
Here is how to think about it.
You need to get a good idea of how you spend your time.
And I know no better way than to do a time audit. I have a free resource you can grab here. Plus, an entire episode of the podcast called The Power of a Time Audit.Declare your non-negotiables.
What are the things you must do and the things that need to be at your best? How much time should you/can you devote to those a week?Necessary things
What are the tasks that should or need to happen over the course of a few weeks? Part of strategic ministry planning is understanding the busy seasons and not as busy seasons. I talk about this in an episode about quarters in ministry.Margin Time
You should have around 20% of time unscheduled each week. This is for those necessary adaptations and responses that are part of ministry. The trouble with being over-scheduled is we don’t end up having MARGIN for the things that should absolutely have it.
