The Day

A Daily small task, if it be really daily, will beat the labours of a spasmodic Hercules.

- Anthony Trollope

When I ran across that quote, I knew it was going to be perfect for this episode. I had to share it. Because the day is where everything happens. Everything in life is essentially planning until this moment. And our days are fleeting. So let’s take full advantage of what they have to offer.

If you have been following along with this season of Productive Pastor, then the day should be a piece of cake. It’s about following your strategic plan. Here are three moves to think of as you walk through each day.

1. Starting Well
Have you ever thought about how one or two decisions allow you to function the rest of the day? I call it “one behavior theory” and I share how I’ve realized how doing one thing first has the ability to change everything.

2. What am I doing today?
This is one of the most important questions, and it can be decided before you ever step foot in the office. The best filter to make this decision is asking “where does my church need me at my best?” and realize what it means to say yes to that.

3. What do I do when things get cattywhampused?
Things might get wild occasionally. Ministry is either highly predictable or wildly unpredictable. What matters is for us to have a plan for when things get a little extra.
