The Week
Have you ever felt the pressure of wanting to get a bunch of things done and having a ministry week go haywire?
If so, this episode should feel really good. At the bottom level, the more predictable we are, the more purposeful we are.
One of the best ways we can make sure we have a haphazard week in ministry is to simply think we can jump into the whole week without an awareness of what we have to do, what we get to do, and what we need to focus on. The week is where we win. It’s that time we have to dig deep into our strategic plans AND dig deep into the relationships around us.
I love Tim Keller’s definition of work. He puts it this way: work is “rearranging the raw material of God’s creation in such a way that it helps the world in general, and people in particular, thrive and flourish.” - John Mark Comer | Garden City
The Three Ways to Win the Week
Start well
How often do you sit down and plan out what your week will look like? This is a chance to take a step back, evaluate what you already have on your schedule, and intentionally sculpt out the week. This allows you to be both purposeful AND responsive.Run it well.
And at 80%. Nothing good happens when we fill up our week 100% and don’t leave margin for things. Another part of running your week well is the awareness of your tiny huge tasks. Those small things can create HUGE impacts.Finish Well
How do you score your week? And part of this is knowing that you did the best you could have done, and naming the reasons why you might not have gotten things done the way you planned it. I also find it helpful to have some sort of a closing ritual to seal off the end of your week.
