PP018 The Basics of Human Resources

If I could make a list of things I didn’t learn in seminary (and I think I probably should have), learning to lead and manage a staff would be one of them. Point of honesty here…this is probably one of the things I have struggled the most with in ministry. One of my biggest helps navigating all of this has been my wife, Meredith Brooks. Meredith isn’t just wise, but also works in the corporate world in Human Resources.

I wanted to sit down with her and just give her a mic to talk about the basics of Human Resources for ministry leaders.

Meredith is always organized. So of course she present three key ideas and gave some great resources.

  1. Manage to a policy, not a person.

  2. Set clear performance expectations.

  3. Take Action.
