Hey friends, it's Chad, and welcome back to Productive Pastors! I hope you're tuning in during the post-Christmas calm, enjoying some well-earned rest with family. This is our space dedicated to ministry health through strategic productivity, and in this episode, I'm sharing the ten biggest productivity lessons I've learned this year. So buckle in and let's dive in!
1. The Time of Day Matters.
I've always emphasized how important timing is, but this year it hit differently. My productivity peaks have shifted, and I've had to adjust my schedule to make the most of my afternoons. I preserve my mornings and productive slots with all my might; it's all about finding and defending those high-energy windows.
2. Saying Yes and Saying No.
As an activator, I love starting new projects, but this year I focused on being proactive rather than just reactive. Learning when to say no has been crucial, even when opportunities are tempting. It's about recognizing what truly aligns with my goals and responsibilities.
3. Communication Priority.
Communication, both professional and personal, has taken center stage. It's not just about messaging but making sure responses are timely and that I'm choosing the most effective communication channels for different needs. Professionalism in communication is now a big focus for me.
4. The Shift to Analog.
I've embraced a more analog approach, finding that physical notebooks and index cards work wonders for my brain. Something about pen-to-paper interactions fosters greater presence and creativity for me. Shout out if a printed day sheet pad would interest you!
5. The Power of Systems.
Systems have always interested me, but leading numerous programs has deepened my appreciation for them. They offer clarity, repeatability, and simplicity—essentials in coordinating extensive projects with multiple moving parts.
6. Consistency Builds Trust.
Consistency is tied to trust. Being consistent in our actions sets expectations for others and enhances personal growth across all facets—physically, mentally, and spiritually.
7. Relationships Help.
Whether respecting professional boundaries or fostering genuine friendships, building solid relationships is pivotal. It's about human connections that foster trust and efficiency in our collaborative efforts.
8. Stretch Your Brain.
After a slump in my reading habits, I reignited my passion for it this year. Reading widely and intentionally stretches the brain, aiding problem-solving and offering fresh perspectives on my ministry work.
9. Analog Zettelkasten.
I've explored the analog Zettelkasten system—a method of filing and connecting index cards. It’s been a game-changer, helping me manage information and draw practical connections for my work.
10. Keep Things Simple.
Simplicity is key. I'm on a mission to pare down complexity in my life and work. It's about distilling processes into digestible components and understanding other's perspectives, making collaboration smoother and more effective.
It's been a transformative year filled with growth and learning on so many levels. I hope these insights spark some thoughts for you as you reflect on your own productivity journey. Don't forget to check out my mini-course, Prepare Focused Sermons—it’s a cool resource for crafting impactful sermons using structured templates and teachings.
Thank you for joining me today and throughout the year. Productive Pastors is grateful for your support and engagement. Here's to an exciting 2025 ahead! .
