Core Communication Beliefs: PP114

One of the biggest controlling dynamics of ministry in our world now is communication. It’s changed in the last 30 years. Pastors now have to have a completely different set of communication skills and maintain fantastic personal communication.

Let’s jump into these beliefs and how they lead to healthy ministry through strategic productivity.

In This Episode:

1. Commitment to Communication and Presence:
We kick off the episode by discussing the necessity of making a commitment to communication. I strongly believe everything rises and falls on how effectively we communicate. Whether through responsiveness, clarity, or just being present, prioritizing communication can transform your ministry. I share my strategy, including how I’ve gone analog with 4x6 note cards to keep tasks and communication in check.

2. Setting a Time Limit:
It the important to a time limit for communication tasks. For me, communication should not wait longer than 24 hours. I emphasize the power of acknowledging that you’ve received a message, which builds trust and keeps everyone on the same page.

3. How Will You Communicate?
Lastly, we explore the various levels and methods of communication. Whether it's organizational, personal, or pastoral, knowing the right approach is key. I also stress the importance of communicating vision regularly and the value of developing strong writing skills as a leader.

Key Takeaways:

  • Commit to Communication: Everything hinges on how well you communicate and present yourself.

  • Timeliness Matters: Keep a tight timeline for returning calls, emails, and messages.

  • Approach is Key: Different scenarios require different communication styles; always keep the role you’re playing in mind.

  • Lead First: Good communication can drastically reduce misunderstandings and repetitive questions.

  • Always Communicate Vision: Constantly revisit and convey your church's mission and vision.

  • Expect Regular Communication: Ensure your congregation expects and receives consistent updates from you, which can ease anxiety and build a connected community.
