PP015 Questions as part of the sermon process
Have you ever thought about how questions can be a strategic part of your sermon process? In this episode, I talk about how you can use questions alongside of other congregational leadership to discern every part of the larger practice of preaching.
In the episode, I walk through these phases of questions as part of the sermon preparation process.
1. Why Use Questions
Questions give us clarity. There is a funny thing about how questions can challenge us towards new beliefs and practices. Questions also help us name assumptions and discern preaching islands. We can use questions to stay on track when we are trying to develop parts of our preaching as well.
2. How to Develop Your Own Questions
The best place to start is to make note of your convictions and see how that affects your preaching? If you want to make sure something is done (or not done), write a few questions around it to use in preparation.
3. Using Questions in Discernment.
Questions help not just the preacher, but the whole congregation. Questions help us identify and stay missionally focused.
4. Using Questions in Preparation.
We can use questions to work through different exegetical strategies or to stay focused and not just chase rabbits in our preparation.
