Resting (is stronger than crashing)

Welcome to the latest episode of Productive Pastor!

In a world that seems to be overly busy, with distractions at every turn, we really need to have a conversation about resting.

And this isn’t a conversation about Sabbath. Sabbath is an absolute and total thing…but we can’t get to it if we don’t have our heads screwed on straight about why resting is not just important, but integral to our call and understanding as people. We have to talk about rest in order to build up any theology of work.

How are we being refueled and dawn into the graciousness of God?

That’s the big question that we have to be prepared to answer? And we might find out it is a tough place to go to because ultimately, any issues we have with why ministry leaders (or anyone period) struggles with rest is because so many of us attach meaning and identity to our work. Work itself isn’t evil, but when we make it our identity we end up carrying it around like an idol in a bag.

For a workaholic, the issue becomes learning to live rightly in relationship to work. A workaholic will most likely have to get back to work. As for my work, studies continue to reveal that pastoral burnout is connected to the pastor’s sense of being and worthiness. - A.J. Swoboda

So in this episode we dig into what it means to re-identify in our “working and keeping” as a Biblical identity and how we can implement this in multiple facets of life.

So let’s jump into the episode together.
