PP048 Practicing A Week End Review

Part 2 of my series on weekly reviews is coming right at you!

In this episode, I talk about how to create a practice a week end review that both allows you to mentally shut work down AND be aware of how you focused on your goals for the week.

What helps you stop well?
The goal of the week end review is about mentally stopping work, so you can practice Sabbath and rest well AND being able to evaluate the goals you set at the beginning of the week. This means thinking through both parts as you create your review and rhythm.

How can you “stop” work? That’s one of the questions. As you are thinking through this, name what needs to happen in order for your brain to move from the workweek into a time of rest. Create rhythms or practices that signal this. Clean off your desk. Take the trash out. Think about physical actions you can do.

You also want to be reviewing what you set out to do for the week. The strength of this practice is based on having an intentional plan for the week. You might come to your work review and realize that you didn’t meet your goals. Ask yourself why and make any adaptations you can for the next week.

Tighten up your tasks and schedule for the next week. You want things to not be in disarray when you step back into the office, so send those emails and make the quick contacts you might need for the next week. Process your receipts or do those quick follow-ups.
