PP012 Ministry Transitions and Awareness

How intentional are you about ministry transitions?

I think taking the steps towards greater personal awareness, lessons learned, and practical first steps is important. In my current transition, I have been thinking strategically about what those might look like. So I share the personal, the theoretical, and the practical in this episode.

So how am I planning my transition? I like to think of it as a journey from theory land to action land.

I think asking appreciative and exploratory questions about our own past experiences helps us to build out a tactical idea of what the transition needs to look like.

These are some questions that I asked myself and spent time processing over a couple of days.

  1. What are my basic assumptions about how I pastor?

    1. What are my core convictions?

    2. What do I feel called uniquely to do?

    3. What do I feel led to shape my ministry around?

  2. What lessons have I learned?

    1. The positive.

    2. The negative.

  3. What does vocational and organizational health look like in this new situation?

    1. How do my personal values inform this?

    2. The lessons I have learned.

    3. My personal expectations and responsibilities.

  4. What will I say yes and no to? How am I creating boundaries focused on health and effectiveness?

As I grow into my new ministry scenarios, I base my decisions and focus on the personal work I have done. I trust my own continued reflection and transformation to be one of the best decision-making matrixes I have.
