Leading In Strange Times : An Intro
I know many of us are planning out our 2023s, thinking about strategy, or just hoping things calm down a bit.
For the rest of the year, I want to do a short series on how curiosity affects our strategic planning.
These three episodes will be a mashup of two of my content pillars; strategic ministry and systems design.
But they are also a summary of the personal reflection I have been doing for the last year as I come to terms with being someone who tends to think strategically almost constantly, but realizing we live in a world we can’t control, AND our call as faithful Christians needs to be focused on what God is doing.
In this short introduction, I share how I’ve been in this space of mind due to the writings of two different people; Alan Roxburgh and Mark Lau Branson. I have also been listening to a great deal this past year to Mark Sayers. What I find between the three of them is both a reflective and confessional tone from a previous generation of leadership as well as one of the sharpest thinkers of today…and they are all wrestling with the same thing.
What does it mean to lead a congregation of Jesus’ followers in a faithful way in the 21st Century?
So in this episode, I introduce just a bit of the idea. The next part of the series is about technical leadership vs. adaptive leadership. I will wrap up the series with a model I am a big fan of called Appreciative Inquiry and share how it helps us by intentionally asking us to lead with curious minds.
