PP87 : Three Things You Don’t Need To Worry About (in the new year).
Some people go absolutely NUTS over a new year. Setting goals, building plans, implementing all sorts of things…I’m sure you know the type. Other folks, well, can add to the stress that is already present. Let me talk about 3 of the usually pressure points, and how you might shift each one into something more helpful.
Do I have to do everything?
Nope.
Everything isn’t equally important. Folks love coming up with a massive list of all the things, and say they are all equally important.
They might tell you you have to have a 100% optimized life as well. This isn’t true.
I do think it is helpful to know HOW to optimize things for when you really need them to be optimized though. The worst time to develop a skill is when you need the skill. So take something you know needs some development and apply focus and intention to that.
Do things need to be perfect now?
Nope.
January 1st is just a day. If discipline is an issue for you, turning the page on the calendar won’t make a difference in the least bit. Hard lines don’t make things easier…but systems do.
I decided not to set any big goals just yet because I trust my systems. I am still thinking through a handful of things, and I do have a list of habits to develop. Think through how you might create just one system over the next couple of ministry months. This is a slower time of the year and perfect for a bit of personal work to create a healthy system or two.
Do I have to know everything?
Nope.
But you do need to start collecting information. When the time comes to make a big decision, your data matters. If you haven’t ever collected it…well, you will be in a tough spot. Three free programs can really help you keep and collect this data in a helpful way.
Those three things can help you build up a system to hold the data for when you need it.
